]It just doesn't seem right that after such a journey to get to this momentous point that they couldn't/wouldn't long to finally touch one another.

Yes, I especially felt this in my earlier viewings. I guess I'm used to it now but I must say, the 'look', smoulders in a quiet, subdued way. It packs such a wallop. It makes the final proposal scene seem rather limp in comparison. :-)
