Actually, that's what I thought as well. I thought Darcy an aristocrat in the general term of being a member of the upper class with titled relations. I would think he's above the rank of knight bachelor or knight baron who are known as Sir. As he has no title such as marquis, earl, vi-count he is not a member of the nobility. We have said before his cousin, Colonel the Honourable_____ Fitzwilliam (hope the titles are right way), second son of an earl is of higher social rank than Mr Darcy. I assume Fitzwilliam is at least an aristocat though not of the nobility.
