The particular passage that you quote about speculations regarding Lydia's "going on the town" is imo the most brilliant example in P&P of the very interesting theme/thread/call-it-what-you-will of the people of Meryton acting as a kind of chorus, that idea of the characters acting within a wider world beyond their drawing rooms, and the consequences of that.
