n fact I have already done so ;-)

"2d" meant two old pence( tuppence), when (prior to 1971) there were 12 pennies in every shillling , and twenty shillings to every pound( 21 to every quinea).

So an express message was a very expensive thing to send in 1891- especially over a lot of miles.
