P&P's episodic style   Written by Captain Everett (1/12/2004 8:59 p.m.)
Are you new?

I was particularly struck about the episodic style of P&P during this re-read.

I've known seen it before, and it clearly shows how it was adapted from JA's earlier draft of "First Impressions" - written as a series of letters in the style of "Lady Susan".

What I particularly noticed was how this method can be used to draw the reader into the story. Rather than being given a general background to the story (Mr. Bennet was... had five daughters... ential...) we are given scattered tidbits of information. We only get what we need to know right before it comes up in the story. She give us one piece of the puzzle at a time rather than giving us a overview and then revealing the minor details.

Like dropping a bit of gossip, and then leaving us eagerly waiting for the next one.
