This really bothers me in P&P2   Written by Jo Y (2/16/2004 7:03 a.m.)
Are you new?

After the wonderful proposal scene - HURRAH! - Lizzy and Darcy are seen continuing their walk down the road toward Meryton and I long for Darcy to offer his arm to her! In the text JA has him express himself on the occasion as sensibly and warmly as a man violently in love can be supposed to do - one suspects that he at least kissed her hand and then enjoyed the pleasure of holding onto it as the conversation continued - do you think? It just doesn't seem right that after such a journey to get to this momentous point that they couldn't/wouldn't long to finally touch one another. Maybe it just wasn't the done thing; however, Bingley and Jane, who in this scene are ahead of them, appear to be walking with Jane's arm in Bingley's. Perhaps the difference between being officially engaged and not.
