What good would it do now?   Written by KateL (2/15/2004 6:37 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The elopement, again, penned by Vania
Are you new?

I think Jane realises that the damage is done, and the only solution is for Wickham to be part of the family no matter what the emotional cost to anyone. She knows that telling her parents before would have prevented the elopement, but at this point all it would accomplish is hurting them more and destroying any hope of Lydia and Wickham being accepted again.

Being Jane of course, she's trying to believe that they've learned their lesson and will lead better lives from now on. She wants to give them the best possible chance to start again by not adding to the Bennets' reasons to hate Wickham.
