She was privy to the details of the transaction through her husband whereas Mr. Bennet was still being kept in the dark. The 10,000 was speculation on his part, IMO. Knowing Wickham why would he marry a young lady who was silly, ignorant and had neither fortune nor virtue? The inducement would have to be great.

3,000 to 4,000 was still a huge amount. Mr. Bennet couldn't afford it and even Bingley would have balked at spending almost a year's income on Lydia who was not even his relation.
