It has always seemed to me that Elizabeth's horror went beyond just the immediate family disgrace but into the future. She was well aware of Wickham's character and foresaw that he would eventually tire of Lydia. Then what would become of her? She was hardly likely to be welcomed back at home and might well have been handed on to another man seeking her companionship in London. I think that's the life Elizabeth predicted for her sister.
