This is a interesting counterpoint.

I always supposed half the problem with Wickham was that it was so hard to seperate the fact from the fiction. Its hard to say how much of the rumour mill is real and what is perpetuated by Mrs Lucas and Phillips.

Although its easy to believe that he did run up debts with 'every reputable tradesman in the town', especially after we know he can be quite charming and appear geniune.
