Mr Wickhams reputation in Meryton   Written by Johanna Elisabet (2/14/2004 2:58 a.m.)
Are you new?

After the elopement the rumour mill in Meryton gets busy.

"All Meryton seemed striving to blacken the man who, but three months before, had been almost an angel of light. He was declared to be in debt to every tradesman in the place, and his intrigues, all honoured with the title of seduction, had been extended into every tradesmanīs family" and so on...

When Jane and Lizzy hears these rumours Lizzy believes half of it and Jane still less but both Jane and Lizzy are giving the rumour mill credit to some extent. I wonder what source Jane and Lizzy would give credit. Their aunt Phillips they know to be a gossip. In earlier threads Lady Lucas seems to be a part of the rumour mill too, and I would not take Mrs Longs words without a grain of salts either. Any ideas?
