While Line's little scenario is entirely plausible, Wickham is a clever rogue. I doubt he'd allow her to tag along till he'd seen the contents of her purse and she'd handed him her money before they left Brighton. I'm sure it was pleasanter for Wickham to hide with a female companion in London but I still think she was in danger of him just getting sick of her and dumping her. Foolish, foolish girl!
