But Wickham might have told her he had no ready cash, so she would have to have the money ready for the carriage. And if the plans were made last minute OR told to Lydia last minute (as I suspect might have been the case), then she wouldn't have had enough time to shop.

Poor, stupid Lydia, indeed.
