I think Lydia was available   Written by kathleen (elder) (2/13/2004 4:38 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Is Lydia a Lizzy-substitute?, penned by Linden
Are you new?

Wickham was attracted to Elizabeth for more than her liveliness or energy or sex appeal. Elizabeth is witty and interesting -- Lydia doesn't seem to have either of those qualities.

Lydia took a liking to Wickham, especially in Brighton it seems. Wickham was probably not averse to having a googly-eyed girl around who seemed to be ready for just about any adventure. If it hadn't been Lydia, it would likely have been some other silly female who was lightly chaperoned and whose morals were suspect.
