]I'm re-reading this part with the whole elopement, and the thought came to mind about whether or not we really know why Wickham ran off with Lydia.

I too have wondered why they ran off together. Lydia perhaps have done it for fun. But why would Wickham take Lydia with him I know not. I don't think Lydia have much money with her, I would think she had spent most of the money given her by her parents by this time.
