]about P&P2 (at least in this 1st part) is the grating and rather drunk-sounding laughter at the Merryton assembly as the dancing goes on into the night. It sounds more like something out of a Roman banquet in Quo Vadis? than something from Jane Austen's world. What is the point? To show that they are in "unpolished society"?

I dislike that too especially when one of the drunks trys to dance and fell down in the water.. I hate that scene.
