Are you new?

Just a speculation but I think if Pemberley had a Guest Book, only the Steward and Housekeeper would normally view the book. Possibly Mr Darcy only saw the Guest Book when he returned home if there were titled names, relations, friends or people claiming to be related to the Darcys. Hmm. Mrs reynolds asked if 'the young lady knew the master.' She might have commented to Mr Darcy a young lady with the Gardiner party visited Pemberley who was an acqitance of him.
