Remember, this is a *clergyman* who, instead of counselling, advising, or ministering to his "flock" all on his own, takes their tiniest of troubles straight to his noble patroness to handle. I imagine he does do some of the actual ministering, but not without her approval and not without hearing what she thinks is the right way to approach the situation.
Plus, he has to make all those morning visits, plus keep up the random seconds of conversation that she leaves open to him in the evenings - he has to have things to talk to her about, and "every single thought that crosses his mind" seems to suit.
The idea of him keeping such momentous news from her Ladyship... it's unthinkable. I'm sure he would think even the suggestion of it disloyal and a completely unworthy response to all her kind condescension.
