He's too narrow-minded to consider this other connection. He revealed his lack of discretion in the matter, among other things. He heard of the elopement from a letter from Hertfordshire (Lucases?), he gave away his wife's (possibly private) opinion and his own blabbing to the de Bourghs. I was disgusted with this letter. If he meant to be sensitive and comforting, I think he managed the opposite.
