I need a translator   Written by Margaret Ellen (2/9/2004 12:14 a.m.)
Are you new?

In Chapter 45 after Caroline tried to discomfit Lizzy with her snipe regarding the militia, there is a very long paragraph immediately afterwards. It is full of unclear pronouns, and I do not know to whom each is referring. Would someone please translate? I have inserted my questions in parenthesis in the snip below.

"To no creature had it been revealed, where secresy was possible, except to Elizabeth; and from all Bingley's connexions her brother (Darcy?) was particularly anxious to conceal it, from that very wish (what wish?) which Elizabeth had long ago attributed to him (Darcy?), of their (who?) becoming hereafter her own (what??). He (Darcy?) had certainly formed such a plan (what plan?), and without meaning that it should effect his endeavour to separate him from Miss Bennet, it is probable that it (what?) might add something to his lively concern for the welfare of his friend."

And, how did the business of Wickham and Georgiana suddenly get mixed up with Darcy's plan to separate Jane from Bingley?

I cannot tell you how many times I have read this book and gone to this section in particular and puzzled over it. Thank you one and all for your help.
