Wickham seemed to know that the Bennets weren't overly wealthy (he "left" Elizabeth for Miss King, after all!), and he must have seen that Mr & Mrs Bennet were not overly protective of their daughters. I don't think that Wickham had any motives relating to a future "price" when he ran off with Lydia, so there would be no reason for Denny to be the designated betrayer.
I wonder if Denny was simply speaking of Wickham's intentions in general -- maybe he knew that Wickham had hopes of marrying an heiress (like Miss King, for example) and that Wickham would not be likely to marry someone as poor as Lydia.
