I seem to be focusing quite abit on Miss Bingley during this GR-then,again she is quite a scene stealer and my theme is dramatics:) Here,we see her at Pemberley(with Mrs. Hurst mainly in the background)as part of Georgiana's party greeting Lizzie & Aunt Gardiner. It's a rather awkward visit, with Georgiana's shyness and the cold reception of Caroline & Mrs. Hurst"After sitting in this matter a guarter of an hour without hearing Miss Bingley's voice,Elizabeth was roused by recieving from her a cold enquiry after the health of her family."
When Darcy enters the room, everything changes-he breaks the ice,so to speak. Seeing that Darcy is more interested in Lizzie, she starts in with one of her catty comments:
"Pray,Miss Eliza, are not the--shire militia removed from Meryton? They must be a great loss to YOUR family."
Lizzie quickly answers in a non interested tone(this scene is abit more expanded in the P&P2 movie, with Wickam's name actually being mentioned)and changes the subject smoothly to avoid upsetting either Darcy or Georgiana(Darcy is the more discomposed, knowing directly who Caroline is referring to).
Caroline is at her worst after the visit, running down Lizzie's supposed flaws in front of Darcy"her face is too thin, her complexion has no brilliancy...her teeth are tolerable, but not out of the common way;and as for her eyes, which have sometimes been called so fine,I could never percieve any thing extraordinary in them." She goes on in this way until Darcy shuts her up with this:
"Yes,but that was only when I first knew her,for it is many months since I have considered her as one of the handsomest women of my acquiantance."
Poor Miss Bingley-she puts herself in the spotlight to get Darcy's attention, only to wind up with egg on her face!:D
