Bachelor household?   Written by Ann2 (2/7/2004 8:05 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why not with a chaperone?..., penned by Karen 2L
Are you new?

Perhaps Darcy wished to spare his sister? In a bachelor's home scenes migh arise unpleasant to an innocent young lady and even to her chaperone? See the mention of 'unguarded moments' in Darcy's letter referring to his association with Wickham and possibly other 'young rascals'. Dare one imagine irregular habits, some very late hours, noisy evenings and whiskey galore? Darcy might have preferred to live a life of his own without having to consider his sister's reputation, peace of mind and beauty sleep.

Please don't think I look upon our hero as a dissolute rake. I simply belive him to be a pretty normal young bloke - only principled, clever, taller and more handsome than most gentlemen. ;-9

As we have daily proof ;-)
