The injustice of entailments   Written by Jeanne P (2/6/2004 5:58 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Mrs Bennets quirks, penned by Johanna Elisabet
Are you new?

Mrs. Bennet may have never understood the entailment concept, but I agree with her that it was unfair and harsh to living female members of families. As it have been mentioned before, women could not own property and were at the mercy of their male relations who had money and property. How were Mrs. B and her 5 grown daughters going to take care of themselves if Mr. B dies? In what ways would Mr. Collins support his relations when he just married and would probably start his own family? Then and now, it seems unfair and harsh for women to have no power or control over their financial status and to depend on the whims and mercies of men.
