I think Mr Bennet was selfish again, wishing for some peace and quiet with Lydia gone to Brighton. He is aware of Lydias silliness and her bad behavoir but he decides that the inconvienience of refusing her going is too much trouble.


"At any rate, she cannot grow many degrees worse, without autorizing us to lock her up for the rest of her life."
