As for Mrs. Reynolds, she has been with the Darcy family for decades - I'm sure she would have dealings with the local people and get to hear their opinion of the family.

I wouldn't think that Mrs. Renyolds would have a lot of dealings with the locals, but I can easily picture a conversation about it ("You're the housekeeper for that Mr. Darcy, aren't you? How can you bear to work for such a proud, disagreeable man?" "Mr. Darcy proud! No indeed..." & ect.)

So I think you must have the right of it.
