Mrs. Bingley's and Mrs Dacy's Portraits   Written by Deborah Julia (2/3/2004 12:46 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Enquiry..., penned by Mandy N
Are you new?

JA visited exhibitions (of paintings? with HA in London (1813) and liked to look for liknesses of Mrs B and Mrs D. JA wrote to Cassandra that she had seen a "likeness" of Mrs B. but not Mrs D. I suppose JA had her own mental picture of her charactors, just like us!

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a record of whoose portrait was so like Mrs B. nor which exhibitions she visited.

JA's letters give us such tantalising glimpes of her life but she didn't sketch in the sort of details that would interest us, her future fans and addicts.

The letters are on the Henry Chruchyard site, worth a look.
