I agree   Written by Jo Y (2/2/2004 10:16 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Yes, I think so too, penned by Julianne E.
Are you new?

The letter shows enormous respect for, and trust in, Lizzie's sense and judgement in revealing such personal and painful events, esp the Georgiana/Wickham near elopement.

Despite the fact that he interpreted wrong in assessing Jane's regard for Bingley - he acknowledges that Lizzie knows her sister better than he could - it is lovely that he got Lizzie so right! A man ardently in love, whose depths of passion had driven out reason, was willing to throw convention to the wind and take the initiative to write the letter and deliver it to her - again correctly seeking her out in the woods where he knew she would have gone for some solitude - speaks to his desire to appeal to that sense of justice and hopefully at least to right her skewed view of him. It is a beautiful literary device on JA's part to enable Lizzie to consider his character after the anger has subsided.
