You make an excellent point about Mrs. Bennet. She rarely practices what she preaches, IMO. For example, she's spoken quite plainly of how detestable she finds Darcy's pride, and yet she's made some fairly prideful comments herself.
In one conversation alone she boasts of Jane's beauty, the number of families with which she and her family dine and the fact that her daughters do not lower themselves to do housework. Even as I laugh at this ridiculous display, I find myself feeling quite sorry for Lizzy in this passage, as she keeps trying to steer her mother to less dangerous topics and her mother persists in making a prideful fool of herself.
