Great quote! Exactly my point...   Written by Diana (1/12/2004 12:25 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Speed and energy, penned by Jo Y
Are you new?

Please don't think that I am trying to criticize either the novel or P&P2, and I understand that in a screenplay you need to do things differently than in a book. I thought it would be an interesting comparison not just to look at changes in plot or character, but to see how the tone changes between the two and talk about why that might be the case. Lucy, you make some good comments about how AD establishes characters right away. Jo, I think your quote from AD illustrates this difference in tone beautifully. JA seems to be trying to set a tone of comedy or irony, while AD is trying to set a tone of speed and energy. That's interesting, and it will be fun to see if it carries through the entire novel/viewing. :-)
