And was Darcy at the point struggling with his love for Lizzy yet? Or was he still (as he realised it) only bewitched by her? It could be his motives for separating Bingley and Jane had something to do with wanting to separate HIMSELF from Elizabeth, and prohibiting any alliance with the Bennett family.
