An Accomplished Lady   Written by Annette J (2/1/2004 8:09 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Lady Catherine is not an "accomplished" Lady, penned by Karrie
Are you new?

It certainly is an echo of the conversation at Netherfield (Vol I) about "accomplished ladies," which is no doubt one of the many reasons why Darcy cannot abide being in the presence of his aunt for more than a short time. Not only is she totally lacking in accomplishments but she is mean-spirited to boot: by being the latter she has isolated herself, and by being the former she is not even amusing. I thought the portrayal of Lady C in P&P2 was very well done -- although it is an exaggeration, you could almost say that she is an example of the "banal face of evil," or as close to evil as JA gets in her books.
