The Colonel witnessed an exchange of strong feelings   Written by Joanmarie (1/30/2004 2:47 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, This is all very fascinating, penned by Katie R
Are you new?

] Did the Colonel have any idea about Darcy's feelings for Lizzy. I doubt they would have spoke about it but could the Colonel have noticed something in Darcy's behaviour? This could be a further reason for him to back off.

He knew something was up. He watched the two fence before him during the pianoforte conversation:
She says:
"You mean to frighten me, Mr. Darcy, by coming in all this state to hear me? ... My courage always rises with every attempt to intimidate me."
He says:
"I am not afraid of you," said he smilingly.

While the conversation was mild, the emotions of fear, intimidation are not. The Colonel, IMO, must have felt quite left out of this exchange.
