It's not pure speculation at all. Lizzy did say that Charlotte was kept out of doors in all that wind. I dearly hope that Anne did speak more than two words. Otherwise, an invitation would have been impossible. lol. If she was too polite as you say, it would have been proper for Anne to enter the house. Regardless of its master, its mistress atleast deserved her due.
