I am also sceptical of Caroline's claim. All Miss Darcy's relatives? Does that include Lady Catherine? She would certainly expect her niece to marry into a titled family. How well does Lady C. know Charles Bingley? IMHO Mr Bingley is a true gentleman. We have seen he is affable, gracious, polite and well mannered. He appears at ease with all ranks of society. I think Darcy realizes Bingley could marry well. Yet I cannot believe it is for Darcy's sister. It seems less a question of mercantile origins than Bingley's own sisters. I cannot believe Mr Darcy would wish Georgiana to come under their influence. Caroline and Louisa are hard boiled, shallow women and very ill-mannered despite outward accomplishments. Mr Darcy intensely dislikes Caroline so although he may have no objection to being related to Charles Bingley, Darcy has a stong sense of duty to family. I believe Georgiana would be his first priority. He would not encourage a match with Bingley-due to the sisters. Caroline is indeed too presumptious. She's probably trying to bury all of Jane's hopes completely...yes, with some whistful ambitious dreaming of her own. ;)
