I know it can appear rude   Written by JulieW (1/28/2004 12:28 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Lizzy's rudeness?, penned by Allison Jo

but I think Mrs Gardiner is possessed of a mind equally as lively as Lizzie's.

She knows of the Darcy family and that Mr Darcy has a reputation for haughtiness, shall we say.

Lizzie is being playful and I think her aunt, knowing full well the implications to some of the area in which she lives, will not take offence, but will see the joke. Which is really on Mr Darcy, don't you think?
