Are you new?

It it only in modern times that first names are exchanged freely among individuals. In the past, exchanging of first names was considered a honor, and suggested a deeper level of relationship, for example someone moving from acquaintance to an actual friend. In India it is still the custom among many women to refer to the spouse as Mr XXX, even after they have been married for years.
