I love your description of Mary as a nerd of her time. LOL! And I certainly agree that Mary is an example of JA's irony, especially as portrayed in P&P2. Here is Mary trying so hard to be accomplished and just not having the skill or taste to be really accomplished (and yet all the vanity of being accomplished.)
