Mrs. Gardiner and Darbyshire   Written by Chandra S (1/27/2004 1:20 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Is Mrs Gardiner being aimiable to Wickham re Darcy?, penned by Denise S.
Are you new?

]Do you think it significant that Mrs G (a sensible and likeable woman, a great favourite with Lizzy and Jane) - has not heard anything in her time in Derbyshire to the real detriment of Darcy's reputation?

she spent some time there many years ago - long before Darcy denied Wickham his living, and I believe before Old Mr. Darcy passed away. She has not been back in some time, hence Wickham's ability to give her newer information on her acquaintences despite how long he's been away.

So she wouldn't have heard anything about Mr. Darcy the younger except *possibly* what kind of boy he was; nothing about him as a landlord or a philanthropist, etc... he was never in that position when she was there.
