Is Mrs Gardiner being aimiable to Wickham re Darcy?   Written by Denise S. (1/27/2004 1:12 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Mrs. Gardiner & Wickham, penned by abdullyne
Are you new?

ch 25 when talking to Wickham - "...she tried to remember something of..." (Darcy's)disposition "...which might agree with.." (Wickham's presentation) of it.

I think she says this aloud, and she's being polite to this fine, upstanding and misunderstood young man - Wickham. He's in favour with Mrs G's favourite, Lizzy, too - so Mrs G takes trouble and really strives to "remember" something, however little, about Darcy.

Do you think it significant that Mrs G (a sensible and likeable woman, a great favourite with Lizzy and Jane) - has not heard anything in her time in Derbyshire to the real detriment of Darcy's reputation?
