Combination of 2 and 3   Written by Vania (1/27/2004 12:09 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Is Miss DeBourgh sickly and cross?, penned by Julianne E.
Are you new?

What else does an unaccomplished heiress do? Lady Catherine seems to have this deluded sense of superiority, in terms of personal merits. I always thought that Anne wasn't presented in court because other ladies of fortune would have been more handsome and more accomplished. There's also something rude and bullying about Anne, the way she makes Charlotte stand outside instead of properly entering the house.

The fear of not living up to her mother's expectations sounds realistic and also it could be that Anne inherited her mother's lack of learning. Maybe they were both tone deaf.

I do wonder about the "thin, small, sickly, cross" description. It's possible, too, that she was sick and the apothecary advised them to go outdoors.
