I'm sure that Mr Collins did speak of it   Written by kathleen (elder) (1/27/2004 6:53 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Collins mum?, penned by Diane Margaret
Are you new?

] Don't you find it a little odd that Mr. Collins would not have mentioned meeting Mr. Darcy at Netherfield as soon as he returned home from Loungeborne? Why would she only be finding this out now?

I agree that Mr Collins would have mentioned meeting Darcy, very soon in his first conversation with Lady C after returning to Hunsford. He would be incapable of NOT telling her Ladyship something so connected to herself. The only item he would likely have mentioned ahead of it would be his engagement to Miss Lucas.

But Mr Collins was only at Longbourn a short time prior to the Netherfield Ball (8 days?), and he wasn't aware of Darcy being Lady C's nephew before that evening. Since Darcy left a couple of days after the ball, Lady C might not have realized how long Darcy had actually been in the Meryton area or that he socialized frequently with the locals. And it is possible that Charlotte didn't mention it prior to Elizabeth's visit.
