]It could be on hearing this that Darcy and Col Fitzwilliam decided on an early visit. Could be too they may have visited anyone--just to get away from Lady Catherine and her constant talking. Much like Col Fitzwilliam and his annual tour of the Park. :-)

I think so too. In fact, JA says that "Colonel Fitzwilliam seemed really glad to see them; anything was a welcome relief to him at Rosings." I'm sure Darcy told Fitzwilliam about his acquaintance with Elizabeth from Hertfordshire, and Col. Fitzw. was just as eager to have a reason to stay away from Rosings as Darcy was.
