her people   Written by Diane Margaret (1/26/2004 9:05 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, I've thougt about this too., penned by JulieW
Are you new?

]And I'm not sure. Granted that Mrs Bennet is vulgar ,but is the daughter of the local attourney. And then consider the character of Mr Collins senior?Hardly the gentleman, wouldn't you agree?

But who are her people? Mr. Collins jr. puts such great store by the connections he has made in life wouldn't that cause us to be suspicions of where he came by such a fervent appreciation for his accomplishments in this area?

]Whatever the cause of their arguement, they had to be intimate enough to have one ;-)And it had to be substantial as the ramifications of the quarrel lasted for years......

Another thought is that maybe Mr. Collin's sr. was enamoured of pretty little Miss Gardiner. Do we know if he ever wore a red coat? That he is harsh in his later years could be an indication of an embittering failed attraction to Mrs. Bennet in his youth.

]Call me a cynical old lawyer( go on!), but in my experince money or a will is usually the casue of such family stife ;-)

I will call you cynical if you insists and a lawyer if I must but never would I call you old. I thought that in regency times, especially in the generation before the Bingley's emerging monied class, consideration of connections was right up there with counting the money.
