I've thougt about this too.   Written by JulieW (1/26/2004 8:01 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, lack of connections, penned by Diane Margaret
Are you new?

And I'm not sure. Granted that Mrs Bennet is vulgar ,but is the daughter of the local attourney. And then consider the character of Mr Collins senior?Hardly the gentleman, wouldn't you agree?

I can't quite imagine what his objections to her could be in all honesty..

I think the difference in character between Mr Collins senior and Mr Bennet was probably the root cause of the rift..Mr Bennet can never be called a miser and was certainly a gentleman, though selfish,IMHO.He sounds diametrically opposite to Mr Collins senior.

Whatever the cause of their arguement, they had to be intimate enough to have one ;-)And it had to be substantial as the ramifications of the quarrel lasted for years......

Call me a cynical old lawyer( go on!), but in my experince money or a will is usually the casue of such family stife ;-)
