Not a son of the Bennet daughters   Written by kathleen (elder) (1/26/2004 7:07 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The Bennets sisters, penned by Nasima
Are you new?

The entail is settled on the male line -- sons of sons, in other words. Sons of daughters are not included any more than the daughters themselves. If Mr Collins has no son, then Longbourn would go to some other distant male relative who could trace his ancestry back through the male line to the original man who set up the entail.

JulieW has written a very good description of the entail (linked below) and there are some other explanatory posts within that subthread as well. Perhaps you might find that helpful. :-)
