I think Elizabeth did know her mind, very well in fact

Elizabeth's opinions may have been founded on mistaken information, but I think she knows exactly who she is attracted to -- and it is not Darcy. She is attracted both to Wickham and to Colonel Fitzwilliam, though she is not in love with either one of them. She is NOT attracted to Darcy, and in fact she dislikes him. Elizabeth's emotions seem very settled to me. And since Elizabeth disliked Darcy, then how would he be the best for her in any respect other than fortune? IMO, a good friend should not assume that Elizabeth would stop disliking Darcy just because he seemed to like her, and a friend would not be hoping Elizabeth would marry a man just because he could be helpful to that friend. I think a good friend would want Elizabeth to be happy -- and if Elizabeth dislikes Darcy, I do not see how she could be happy being married to him. |
