]Also, I can't find the quote at the moment, but I think Mr. Collins had only been "enjoying" Lady Catherine's patronage for a few months before he appeared at Longbourne.

Chapter 13--In the letter that Mr. Collins writes to Mr. Bennet mentions that he was ordained at Easter and then recieved the patronage of Lady Catherine soon after.
