Real life Mr. Collins   Written by Antoinette (1/24/2004 2:09 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Random speculation, penned by KateL
Are you new?

For me one of the geniuses of Miss Austen is how very real her characters are. I for one know a man very much like Mr. Collins in his sense of self-importance. And no, not a single insult or degradation has ever gotten through to him that he is not what he imagines himself to be. Some people never let reality get in their way. Miss Austen understood that very well.
