Mr. Bennet's absence at the Assembly   Written by Geri-Lynn (1/23/2004 2:55 p.m.)
Are you new?

Is there any explanation given as to why Mr. Bennet chose to remain at home the night of the Meryton Assembly? I always wondered why he left his wife and daughters to fend for themselves socially and failed to escort them to the dance. Would it be considered in poor taste for Mrs. Bennet and the Miss Bennets to arrive at such an Assembly unescorted?

Any opinions?
